“The stones which we collect in rivers make excellent lime. It is good and white and it is especially use to coat the walls. Each stone of any mountains, like the ones of rivers, is cooked more or less according to given fire, but it cooks according to the rule 60 hours. Cooked, we must wet it progressively without bringing all water in once but on several occasions, continuously, so that it does not burn and until it is well softened. Then we put it in a wet and shaded place without mixing anything to it, just covering it with light sand. The more it will mature, plus it will be tough and better”. According to the French standard concerning the lime of construction NF P the 15-311 (European Standard IN 459-1) putty lime is thus defined “the extinct limes mixed with water until a consistency desired and made up mainly of calcium hydroxide with or without magnesium hydroxide.” This standardization excludes the old way to extinguish the quicklime (see quotation) known as “wet extinction” which is still widespread in the countries where the quicklime is extinct in a traditional way, as the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy etc… In the process, the quicklime immersed directly in water never returns in contact of the air and we obtain a very consistent fine paste which has following qualities: retention of water, reduction sedimentation test, better resistance and elasticity of the works carried out. This binder is the principal component in the manufacture of our “ready to use” coatings. We propose to you to relearn to use it for your masonry with pleasure and respect of the ancient tradition.
USE
LIME PUTTY is used to make traditionnal lime mortar for masonry and also to make numerous finishes like limewashes paint, lime plasters, stuccos.
CAUTION
Lime is irritant, avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact, flood eyes repeatedly with water and SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION.
PACKAGING
Non Filter LIME PUTTY for traditionnal lime mortar is available in bags of 25 kg.
Filter LIME PUTTY for limewashes paint, lime plasters and stuccos is available in buckets of 20 kg.
