VELATURA glaze is an eco friendly water-based glaze for indoor and outdoor decoration . VELATURA glaze has been developed specifically for use with natural pigments and absorbent surfaces ( limewashes , lime plasters , water-based paints , cement , concrete , plaster ...). A variety of finishes can be obtained according to the surfaces, the pigments and the tools used ( brush , natural sponge , pad , rag , stencilling brush …). VELATURA glaze allows to obtain effects ranging from intense colors to delicate nuances of shades. VELATURA glaze is ideal on limewashes and lime plasters to achieve an authentically aged appearance and because it does not seal but integrates into the surface preserving the breathability.
VELATURA glaze is suitable for indoor walls decoration (halls, staircases, living rooms, bedrooms …) as well as building facades or furniture. VELATURA glaze is also particularly recommended for the renovation of historical buildings as well as for an improved aesthetic integration of new buildings into existing environments.
VELATURA glaze is available colorless and is colored using compatible natural pigments .
Composition
Water, water-based glue, mineral and vegetable additives. Made from a selection of non toxic and biodegradable ingredients that are eco and health friendly. Free from asbestos, formaldehyde and heavy metals.

Application
Surface preparation
Indoor and outdoor surfaces should be in conformity with the current standards in force. Surfaces must be homogeneously absorbent, sound, clean, dry, nonfriable and deprived of salts, moisture and moulds. VELATURA glaze should be applied to absorbent surfaces such as limewashes , lime plasters , water-based paints , cement, concrete , plaster...
Painted surfaces should first be cleaned and rubbed with sandpaper to make them matt.
When applied to a rough cast plaster, go over the surface with a dry brush to take off any grains that are still there.

Mixing
Mix VELATURA glaze well in its original bottle before using. VELATURA glaze is ready to use and does not need to be thinned except with whatever water and PENTASOL disperser has been used to dilute the pigments .
Total pigments used should not exceed 15% of the amount of VELATURA glaze in weight ( 150gr in 1kg of VELATURA glaze ). In an appropriate container, dilute pigments with clean water and PENTASOL disperser for a better dilution of the pigments if necessary.
Add the required quantity of pigment (prevent the formation of lumps. If necessary, filter the coloring fluid using a fine sieve).
Gradually add the color solution into the VELATURA glaze and stir well to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Continually stir during use.
Application
Mix well before applying. Apply quickly with a brush in a criss-cross motion and depending on effect desired rag or scrub off using a pad, a rag, a stencilling brush or a natural sponge . Any number of decorative painting techniques will work depending on desired effect.
The final result will be more or less nuanced due to the tools used, the surface and the applicator’s technique. In fact, the same coloring can give various tones and this is why we recommend that you perfect your technique carrying out tests to produce the desired surface and color. Several layers of different colors provide the most beautiful effect. Allow each layer to dry. The umber pigments are traditionally used for antique effect although all the pigments add beautiful nuances with a depth that cannot be achieved through decorative painting alone.
The smoother the finish of surface the longer the VELATURA glaze may be left on before washing off. Also take into consideration exposure to wind temperature and humidity which will effect the drying time. We recommend that you dampen the very absorbent surfaces evenly without any liquid running before applying VELATURA glaze so as to obtain a slower drying process and a greater ease of application. This will also avoid any traces of overlapping. For large surface areas VELATURA glaze can be sprayed to avoid any traces of joints or overlaps.
Drying
Dry after 24hrs. Leave to dry 4 to 6 hrs between each layer. Depending on the absorbency of the substrate and the ambient humidity.
Coverage
100gr/m², depending on the surface.
Practical advice
Clean all tools with water immediately after use.
Apply and store at a temperature of +5°C to +30°C (40°F or 85°F).
Do not apply to hot surfaces or those directly exposed to the sun, or in the wind or the rain.
Each wall section should be finished the same day.
Protect the surrounding areas from splashes or clean with water immediately.
Health Caution
VELATURA glaze is eco and health friendly . However, please take the following precautions: in case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly in water and consult a specialist if any symptoms persist. Keep out of reach of children.
Storage
VELATURA glaze will keep for one year in its original packaging. Keep closed and protect from frost and high temperatures.
Packaging
VELATURA glaze is conditioned in recyclable plastic bottle of 1 litres, and recyclable plastic jerricans of 5 litres and 10 litres.
